What Causes Teeth to Discolor?

At our practice in Sudbury, we offer teeth whitening services. Over time, teeth become more vulnerable to discoloration and staining for many different reasons.

Common factors include aging, smoking, genetics, and:

  • Alcohol consumption
  • Foods and beverages such as red wine, blueberries, coffee, tea, and curry
  • Using tobacco products
  • Poor dental hygiene
  • Taking certain medications

Fortunately, Dr. Ye at Boston Dental and Implants can treat stubborn stains and discoloration safely and effectively.

Brighten Your Smile With Dr. Ye

Teeth whitening is a popular cosmetic dental treatment that can help you achieve a brighter, whiter smile. However, it’s important to understand that not all teeth whitening treatments are made the same.

Store-bought whitening kits produce inferior results to professional whitening and can damage your enamel and gums. Dr. Ye offers professional at-home and in-office teeth whitening treatments for superior results compared to over-the-counter whitening kits.

Professional Teeth Whitening vs Store-Bought Whitening Solutions

We understand that patients often opt for an over-the-counter whitening kit due to time, affordability, and ease of access.

However, it’s important to remember two things about teeth whitening:

  1. You should never start any kind of whitening treatment without consulting your dentist first.
  2. The drawbacks of using over-the-counter whitening kits often outweigh the positives.

Drawbacks of Store-Bought Whitening Kits

Dr. Ye also does not recommend store-bought whitening kits to treat intrinsic stains, which lay beneath your teeth’s enamel. Your smile is one of your best assets, so don’t waste your time or money. It’s worth the investment to protect your teeth from potentially damaging whitening methods if used improperly.

Effective Teeth Whitening Solutions With Dr. Ye

ZOOM! Teeth Whitening

ZOOM! teeth whitening uses a blue LED light to activate a strong whitening gel. With ZOOM!, Dr. Ye can whiten your smile up to eight shades brighter in a single 45-minute appointment. Here’s how it works:

  1. Before whitening treatment, Dr. Ye will discuss your smile goals and address any underlying oral health issues during your initial consultation.
  2. If professional teeth whitening is right for you, we’ll begin right away. Your teeth will first be cleaned to ensure effective results.
  3. Your lips and gums will be covered in protective gauze and gel, which will shield them from the UV rays of the LED light.
  4. We’ll apply a powerful whitening gel to your teeth to strengthen your enamel and help prevent sensitivity.
  5. Your teeth will be exposed to blue LED light for three, 15-minute sessions. The LED light brings stains to the surface, where the whitening gel can eliminate them.
  6. You’ll walk out of our office with a smile that is up to eight shades brighter!

At-Home Whitening Trays

Dr. Ye offers at-home whitening kits for patients wanting to brighten their teeth from the comfort of home. Unlike store-bought kits, our at-home whitening trays are custom-made for a perfect and comfortable fit over your teeth. This helps prevent irritation and discomfort. Here’s how it works:

  1. Dr. Ye will examine your mouth and address any possible oral health issues.
  2. Then, he’ll take digital impressions of your teeth to create your custom-fitted trays.
  3. We’ll provide you with a strong, whitening gel to apply before using your whitening trays.
  4. Make sure to brush and floss your teeth before using your whitening trays.
  5. Fill your custom-fitted trays with the whitening gel provided by Dr. Ye and gently apply them to your teeth using a small brush.
  6. Leave your trays on for the amount of time specified by Dr. Ye.
  7. You’ll get a brighter smile after just two weeks!
